What is Expansio?

Expansio is a free persistent browser strategy game played with other people. Explore a hex map, expand through colonies, build your economy and compete with other players for control of a world. Research, diplomacy, espionage and army composition all shape your campaign.

What does a persistent world mean?

Your empire stays in the shared world when you close the browser. Resources accumulate and construction, research and travel continue. Other players keep developing their own plans. Return to the same campaign across many visits, until someone wins or the world ends.

Do I need to stay online to compete?

Plan for a few visits throughout your day to invest resources, give orders and coordinate with allies. Buildings, research and travel run on timers. Battles against other players resolve at the world's scheduled turn whether you are online or offline, so prepare beforehand. More frequent visits can help you use completed buildings and returning armies; logging out does not protect your empire from losses.

Can I join after a world starts?

Yes, while usable starting positions remain. You begin with your own colony in the same world, where earlier arrivals have already been developing their empires. Check the world's progress and schedule before joining. Starting positions can fill or become occupied as players expand.

Is it really free? Can anyone pay for an advantage?

Expansio is free to play. There are no paid resources, paid power or paid shortcuts. Your advantage comes from your decisions, your preparation and the alliances you build.

Can I play on my phone?

Yes. Expansio runs in your browser on mobile and desktop. No download or installation is required. Sign in to the same account to continue on another device.

How do I start playing?

Create an account with email or Google, browse the available worlds, then choose your class and join. Each world has its own schedule and availability. If no world is open, check the lobby for upcoming worlds.

How do you win a world?

Control landmarks, research the Grand Design and raise a monument while your rivals try to stop you. Complete it to win the world. You can also win by becoming the last player standing. Every world is a campaign with an outcome, rather than an endless ranking grind.
